Mike Barber - Treasurer
Member of VCC since 2013
My cycling story...
After moving to the area in my early 30s, I rediscovered cycling as the ideal sport: social, varied and you're-doing-it-as-soon-as-you-leave home. Strava appealed to my inner geek its data got me hooked on riding further... and a little bit faster. I still love the data... riding faster isn't going to happen, but more exploring is ! Ride Across Britain in 2018 was a bit highlight – as were 2022 firsts for me: the club trip to Majorca and the Hafren Audax.
About my role...
The Treasurer role is to help the Committee plan using a sustainable level of expenditure, spend our money responsibly, keep track of our income, outgoings and cash balances, and be accountable to the members for record keeping.
More about me...
In the real world I'm a Dad to 2 nearly grown kids: the younger only rides a horse, but the elder surprised the family last summer by borrowing my winter bike and riding solo to San Sebastian. I work as a consultant, mostly helping corporates understand and respond to the opportunities and challenges associated with climate change (and increasingly: bio diversity collapse). If we end up riding together be careful what you ask me about: I can rattle on for hours on these and associated topics.
