Daniel Russell - Chair
Member of VCC since 2016
My cycling story...
Always cycled as a kid on an MTB in the Himalayas, commuted at University on a hybrid, and then took up road cycling when I found myself putting on weight after starting full-time work. Since then have ridden most of the major sportives in the UK as well as some of the big ones in France/Italy/Belgium. Have tried a bit of cyclo-cross racing and off-road riding but always get drawn back to challenges on the road - generally the longer and hillier the better! Discovered the Chiltern Classic Reliability Rides when we moved to St Albans a decade ago and found that I kept ending up in the same group of riders. Turned out the best way of riding with them for the rest of the year was to join VCC and start riding with the Fast + (Fast Bs as was).
About my role...
The Chair's role is to lead the committee, setting strategic direction and helping all our volunteers deliver all that the Club does. My key areas of focus are: ensuring the Club's sustainability, continuing to diversify membership of the Club, and increasing our engagement with the wider St Albans/Hertfordshire community.
More about me...
During the day I work for a Bank. And I'm also involved in a couple of India focused health/education charities and an international campaigning organisation. From Het Nieuwsblad to Il Lombardia my tv's tuned into Eurosport and my headphones into the Cycling Podcast.
