2020-24 Verulam Reallymoving Racing Team News and Key Results
September 2024
• We had an amazing start to the Central CX League for Verulam Reallymoving racing team, and for Verulam CC. In the Youths in CCXL Round 1 at Silverstone, Emma Knox was 1st in U14 Girls, winning by over 3 minutes, Alarik Knox was 1st in U16 Boys, winning by 5 minutes, George Rice was 4th in U12 Boys despite being caught up in two crashes, with Verulam CC’s Winston Ford 1st in U8s, Greyson Hall 2nd in U10 Boys, Ada Ford 5th in U12 Girls, and Ieuan Bridge 11th in U12 Boys. In the Juniors/Adults, Samuel Stacey was 1st in the Junior Men winning by almost 3 minutes, Alan Gunner was 1st in V40 Men, Paul Caton was 1st in V60 Men, Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp was 1st in V50 Women. Verulam Reallymoving’s Rachel Dunn was 4th in V40 Women, with Davi Braga getting ever stronger taking 10th in Senior Men, and a good performance too from Verulam CC’s Michael Parry in 14th.
• Alan Gunner won the London & South-East CX League race at Herne Hill, and with VCC's Claire Sharp taking 2nd in the V50 Women.
• On the track Dale Jetmar took 2nd overall in the Youth AB Girls Omnium and 3rd in the Handicap at the Peter Waghorn Trophy meeting.
• Time trailing, Matt Wight achieved his goal of a sub-20 minute time in a 10-mile TT with an official time of 19:44 at the Icknield Road Club’s event on the F11/10 course.
• Alarik Knox won the U16 Open race at Wessex CX League, with Emma Knox 2nd in the U14 Girls.
• Alan Gunner won the Eastern CX League V40 race, Paul Caton won the Eastern CX League V60 race and Rachel Dunn was Rachel Dunn 6th in the V40 Women with Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp 2nd in V50 Women.
• Jake Avis finished 4th in U10s despite starting for 15th in gridding in Eastern CX, after first winning the U12s at Welwyn Wheelers ‘Dusty Devils’ on Saturday, despite being only 7-years old! Plus there was 9th place Senior for Davi Braga after starting from the back of the race
• Our cyclocross season got underway with great results for Verulam Reallymoving’s youths already - 1st place for Samuel Stacey in the Juniors at the East Kent Cyclo Cross League Round 1, and 1st place for George Rice at Wessex CX League at Farnham.
• There was an impressive 2nd place for Alan Gunner in the Vets at the British Cycling National Marathon Championship.
• Chris Burns finished an excellent 2nd in his class in the final standings of the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series after 25 rounds, with Steve Dunn in 5th.
• On the track lthere was a 3rd place for Matthias Kwan (VCC) in the 'reverse win-out' at the Welwyn Track League.
• Matt Wight took 2nd in the Will Houghton Circuit race.
• Alan Gunner finished 2nd iat the British Gravel Championships (with an unfortunate puncture preventing Alan taking the win).
• George Rice was 2nd at Wessex U12 Cyclocross and was on good form at Welwyn Track League taking 3rd in the Youth 2 Scratch race.
• Samuel Stacey took 7th in the Wessex CX League Round 1 at Clanfield.
August 2024
• Chris Burns took 2nd place this week at Lee Valley, putting him in 2nd place in the Series with just one round to go.
• Samuel Stacey comfortably won the final round of the Central CX League Summer Series, with Paul Caton winning the V50s & V60s, and Davi Braga finishing 3rd place in the Senior Men, taking 5th overall.
• Matt Wight was on strong form for Verulam Reallymoving again at Welwyn Track League too, with a win in the scratch race, 3rd in the 200m TT and 2nd in the 10-mile after forcing a 3-man breakaway.
• On the track in the Welwyn League, Samuel Stacey won all of the Youth races; the Scratch, Sprint and Elimination, then took 3rd in the Senior A 10-mile. George Rice picked up a win thanks to a nearly all VCC Team Pursuit squad.
• Davi Braga had his first two CX races in VRM colours, taking 18th overall and 6th in age category at Cyclopark’s Summer CX, and then taking 7th overall in the Wednesday evening Central CX League Summer Series Round 3 at MK Bowl, where Paul Caton was the first placed V60 too.
• George Rice came 3rd in the Oundles Eastern Region triathlon (Tristar 2 category), being fastest on the bike.
• Verulam Reallymoving’s Matt Davey had two further trips to the podium, taking 3rd in the Omega Portsmouth Circuits #7, and 3rd in the 10-mile race at Welwyn Track League, with another 3rd place for at the track too for Dale Jetmar in the youth win-out event. Meanwhile, Steve Dunn took an excellent 7th in his race in the British Cycling Open Masters National Road Race Championships in Devon.
• The team took another two podiums at Welwyn Track League - Matt Davey got 3rd place in the Senior A Scratch race and Dale Jetmar took 3rd in the Youth Handicap event.
• Following Dale Jetmar taking multiple podiums at Track League, including winning the Flying Start 200m TT, there was 5th place for our Matt Wight up against national-level competition in the DernyFest at Gosling Velodrome, with great riding from Matt Davey too, just missing out on the final.
July 2024
• Verulam Reallymoving’s U16 Benjamin Cousins was competing in the Southern Counties 100-mile Time Trial on his road bike last weekend, covering the course, with 4100ft climbing, in an excellent time of 4hr 20mins, and achieving a great result of 2nd overall and 1st place in the road bike category.
• At the British Cycling National Masters Circuit Championships there were more outstanding results with 3rd for Rachel Dunn & 5th for Chris Burns in their respective races.
• The 2024 Redbourn Fete du Velo was a great success for Verulam CC and the Verulam Reallymoving racing team with the 'changeable' weather adding to the excitement of the racing. Huge thanks to all the organisers, officials, volunteers, sponsors, first-aiders, photographers, supporters and Redbourn locals who make this happen. Key results for our team were 2nd for Samuel Stacey & 5th for Benjamin Cousins in U16 Boys, 5th for George Rice in U12 Boys, 7th for Matt Wight in the Men's 2/3/4, 9th for Rachel Dunn in Women's 2/3/4, 9th for Steve Dunn in Masters 40+. The team were also delighted to see future Verulam Cycling Club youth talent racing too, and hopefully progressing to the racing team in the future – Verulam CC’s youths in action included Ieuan Bridge, Karson Wong, Owen Lu, Greyson Hall, Winston Ford, Charlotte Wight and Ada Ford.
• Dale Jetmar and Samuel Stacey put in some great rides at the Track league; 3rd for Dale in the Keirin and an excellent 3rd for Samuel in the 10-mile event; lapping the field with Joel Stewart & John McLelland.
• Off-road, the team saw Alarik Knox take 3rd in the national short track at Tong to win the overall national series, Alan Gunner took 5th in the MTB XC, securing an excellent 4th overall in the series, with 5th for Emma Knox despite dropping a chain, and 11th for Alarik Knox in the XCO - all amazing results at a national level.
• There was a PB of 2:07 for Benjamin Cousins in the national 50-mile time trial - the 4th fastest road bike, and Mike Debney took the win at the Southend Wheelers 50-mile TT by a minute over second place, on a road bike.
June 2024
• Verulam Reallymoving’s mountain bike specialists were back on the podium at Southern XC Round 4 at Clanfield last weekend, with wins for both Emma & Alarik Knox, 3rd for Alan Gunner, and 6th for George Rice in Under 12 Boys. The MTB racers have proven themselves to be amongst the UK’s finest this year, with Alan Gunner now 1st in British Cycling’s 2024 National Open Veteran MTB XC rankings, Emma Knox is currently 3rd in the National Female Juvenile MTB XC rankings and Alarik Knox is 4th in the National Open Youth MTB XC rankings.
• More outstanding performances at the British Cycling 2024 National Cross Country Series Round 4, with Alarik Knox 2nd in the Short Course Juvenile/Youth race then 6th in the main Youth Open race, Emma Knox taking 3rd in the main Juvenile Female race, and Alan Gunner 4th in the Veteran Open race. Plus Paul Caton took the win in the MTB Combined Eastern & South East Division Championship at Hog Hill.
• Mid-Week at Bovingdon, Matt Davey put in a strong sprint in the bunch to finish 7th.
• On the track at Welwyn at a well-attended Track League meeting (featuring 55 riders), Verulam Reallymoving’s track team posted great results. There was a win for George Rice in the handicap - just pipping Dale Jetmar and a 3rd for Dale in the ‘Win Out’ and 3rd for George in the Scratch Race. Matt Davey also had his first meeting of the year and picked up 3rd in the Hare & Hounds race. Samuel Stacey was dominant in the Youth 1 category, winning the Scratch, Reverse Win-Out and Elimination races.
• Off-road we were competing nationally again, with a closely fought fourth for our Alarik Knox in the Short Track and 15th in the Youth Open, and Alan Gunner taking 5th in the Veterans at the Lloyds Bank National Cross-country Series last weekend at Cannock Chase. Mid-week saw Chris Burns and Steve Dunn back in action in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series at Lee Valley, being rewarded with another podium for their efforts; 2nd place for Chris. Plus, George Rice took first place in an U12s triathlon
May 2024
• At Southern XC Round 3 in the New Forest, Emma Knox won the Juvenile Girls (by a huge 6mins 38secs!), Alan Gunner won the Open Veterans, Alarik Knox took 3rd in the Open Youths and George Rice took 4th in the Under 12s. Alan Gunner also took 2nd overall in the BMCR Griterium at Wibtoft, Leicestershire, with Paul Caton taking 3rd in his category at the same race.
• On the track, Dale Jetmar took 2nd in the Youth 2 Handicap at Welwyn Track League.
• Cormac Bryce took 2nd in the Bovingdon Bomber Masters event, whilst Steve Dunn also took 2nd in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series #7 at Lee Valley in the V50s.
• Dale Jetmar was also back in action at the Welwyn Track League where she picked up 2nd place in the youth handicap race.
• Alan Gunner finished 11th in his age category at the Grallock gravel race in Dumfries, with Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp taking 12th in her age group.
• Outside our usual racing scene we had strong triathlon results too this week with Rachel Dunn taking 2nd place in the Centurion triathlon and George Rice 8th in the Under 11s regional triathlon championships in Bath.
• Alan Gunner & Alarik Knox were both on the podium at Margam Park in the British Cycling National Cross Country Series vets & youth/juveniles respectively, with Alarik taking 3rd in both the XCC & XCO events, plus a very impressive 5th for Emma Knox in both events too.
• Chris Burns took 1st place in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series #5 at Lee Valley thanks to another excellent lead-out from Steve Dunn.
• Cormac Bryce won the overall King of the Mountains jersey in the BMCR Tour of Abberleys.
• George Rice took 4th in the U12s at the Ixworth Crits.
• On the track at Welwyn Matt Wight took wins in the Senior B Scratch and Elimination Races, and 3rd in the Senior A&B 10 Lap Handicap, and Samuel Stacey winning the Points and Reverse Win-Out.
• In the National Champs Road Bike TT our Benjamin Cousins smashed the Junior Category finishing over 4 minutes ahead of 2nd place. Mike Debney took 2nd place in the O40 Category (and 11th overall) and John Jones took 4th in the O55 Category.
• Emma Knox won the U14s at the Southern XC MTB at Basingstoke by a whole 8 minutes, beating all bar one of the U16 Girls too, with Alarik Knox and George Rice both taking 5th in their respective races.
April 2024
• Cormac Bryce took an excellent 2nd in Cat A at the BMCR National Champs.
• Matt Wight took 10th in a large bunch sprint at the end of the Full Gas Spring Cup #1 at Hillingdon, with Chris Burns taking 9th in the Masters at the same event.
• Alan Gunner was back on the podium as he finished a fantastic 2nd in his race at the Kirroughtree MTB Nationals in Scotland.
• Alarik & Emma Knox showed their huge national-level mountain-biking talents as Emma Knox took 4th in the Short Track and 6th in the National XC, and Alarik Knox took 19th and 5th in the Short Track.
• Jake Avis took a great 3rd and a 4th place in this weekend’s races at the BMX National Series round 3 & 4.
• The team were Time Trailing , as VRM & VCC were racing in the Icknield RC TT near Cranfield. Led by Mike Debney, Oli Mytton, John Jones, and Nick Coe battled a windy F5/20 course to gain further points in the Millennium TT Series. We were also the first team, the only category we didn't win in last year's series.
• Chris Burns took the win at Lee Valley in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series #3, thanks to some excellent teamwork from Steve Dunn leading Chris out.
• Alarik Knox took the win in the Youths at the 2nd Round of the Southern MTB at Gorrick XC, with Emma Knox winning the Youth & Juvenile Girls, beating all the Juvenile Boys in the process.
• Cormac Bryce took 3rd in his age category and 8th overall in an extremely tough and windy BMCR Fleche Waltonne road race.
• Steve Dunn took 3rd in his race in the Wednesday evening Full Gas Summer Circuit Series event #1 at Lee Valley Velopark.
• Cormac Bryce won his age category and took 3rd overall in the BMCR La Classicissma at Hog Hill.
• VRM’s Matthew Wight & John Jones topped the timing-sheet in the VCC Hard Riders TT with Nick Coe also posting a sub-80 minute time.
• Emma Knox continued her great form as she took 2nd in the Southern XC MTB at Matterley, with George Rice an excellent 2nd in U12s and Alarik Knox a strong 6th in U16s.
• Matthew Wight was back in action taking points in the E123s at MK Bowl.
• The team said farewell to Beth Watson who’s taking the next step in her cycling career and joining the Team Jadan Vive le Velo Glasdon women's cycling team. Beth’s been with Verulam Reallymoving since the racing team’s first season in 2017, joining from Verulam CC’s Youth Development Programme, and taking many race wins & podiums for VRM in the UK & Belgium.
March 2024
• First place for George Rice in his first MTB race in U11 Boys (beating the U13s in 2nd/3rd places) and 2nd for Emma Knox in Youth & Juvenile Girls in the Gorrick XC MTB races.
• At Lee Valley, Chris Burns took 4th in the March Hare Masters race, Beth Watson took 7th in the March Hare Women’s E123 National B race and Matt Wight took 10th in the MK Bowl Spring Series E123 National B.
• Matt Wight at MK Bowl was in a break that lapped the main field, taking 3rd at the finish in the Mens E123.
• At MK Bowl, Beth Watson continued her great start to the season with 2nd place in the Womens 234 race.
• Samuel Stacey was in the break in the U16s at Hillingdon and took an excellent 3rd place in the final round of the Youth Spring Series
• George Rice took a strong 7th in the U12s in the Chilly City Crits at Lee Valley.
• Batu Yildiz, Matt Wight & Beth Watson were racing in the Spring Series at MK Bowl, George Rice in the Hillingdon Slipstreamers Youth Spring Series, and Steve Dunn in the Full Gas Spring Rumble at Lee Valley. Beth secured her 3rd Cat license with 5th in the Women's 2/3/4 race in just her third road-race since coming back from knee surgery, George took 10th in U12s (despite the weather), and Steve just outside the points in 11th!
• 3rd place for Beth Watson in the International Women’s Day Race at Hillingdon - many thanks to Evolve - The Cycling Network For Muslim Women for putting on a great day of events, and to Joanna Rowsell for supporting grass-roots women’s racing.
• George Rice and Benjamin Cousins were both in action also at Hillingdon in the Slipstreamers Youth Spring Series 2024 #3 with George taking 9th in U12 Boys and Benjamin putting in multiple attacks in the U16 Boys.
February 2024
• Alarik Knox won the Youth Boys and Emma Knox was 3rd in the combined Youth/Juvenile Girls in the Cannock Chase Classic MTB Series,
• Emma & Alarik Knox were both winners at Gorrick MTB.
• Beth Watson won the Full Gas Winter Circuit Series Cat 3/4 women at Lee Valley.
• The team were presented with end-of-season awards last weekend for the team’s hugely successful 2023 Central Cyclocross League results – the final league standings were Jake Avis 1st in U8 Boys, George Rice 5th in U12 Boys, Emma Knox 3rd in U14 Girls, Alarik Knox 1st in U16 Boys, Samuel Stacey 3rd in U16 Boys, Benjamin Cousins 6th in U16 Boys, Rachel Dunn 2nd in V40 Women, Liz McKie 1st in V50 Women, VCC’s Claire Sharp 6th in V50 Women, Alan Gunner 7th in V40 Men, and Paul Caton 1st in V60 Men.
January 2024
• Another great set of cyclocross results as Samuel Stacey won Eastern Region U16 Boys at Cambridge, Alarik Knox won Wessex U16 Boys and Emma Knox won Wessex U14 Girls at Ringwood, George Rice took 3rd in Eastern U12 Boys at Cambridge, and Rachel Dunn took 4th in the V40 Women at Herne Hill.
• In the Cyclocross National Championships at Falkirk our Emma Knox took 2nd in her first year as an U14! An amazing result! Plus Samuel Stacey was so close to the podium taking 4th in U16s, whilst Alarik Knox was unfortunately caught up in a first lap crash
• Emma Knox took a brilliant 3rd place in U14 Girls, with Samuel Stacey and Alarik Knox finishing an excellent 5th & 7th respectively in the U16 Boys, at the BC National Trophy series at Tong . Jake Avis won the U8s in a large field of over 30 riders in the Wessex CX League #8 - Andover Supercross. Meanwhile in the Leicestershire CX League #6, George Rice took a strong 6th also against over 30 U12s.
December 2023
• Emma Knox won the U14 Girls at Wessex Cyclocross League #10, with Alarik Knox taking 3rd in U16 Boys. Paul Caton won the V60s in Eastern Cyclocross League #10 at Stow Country Park, plus 7-year old Jake Avis took 2nd place racing in the Under 10s at Muddy Monsters.
• Mark McGrady finished his time with Verulam Reallymoving by taking 5th in the Ulster Championships.
• In the National Trophy Series, Samuel Stacey was 6th & Alarik Knox 9th in U16s, and Emma Knox 9th in U14s despite still recovering from injury.
• Paul Caton won the Eastern Regional Championships V60 Men, plus has won the overall Central Cyclo-Cross League V60 Men with 7 race wins in that series this season.
• Verulam CC hosted the final round of the Central Cyclo-Cross League at Ashlyns School. We were super proud of all the competitors, especially our own Verulam Reallymoving team - Jake Avis (1st in U8 Boys), George Rice (4th in U12 Boys), Emma Knox (1st in U14 Girls & a minute ahead of the first U16 Girl!), Samuel Stacey (2nd in U16 Boys), Alarik Knox (3rd in U16 Boys), Benjamin Cousins (6th in U16 Boys), Matt Wight (27th in Senior Men), Rachel Dunn (4th in V40 Women), Liz McKie (2nd in V50 Women), and Alan Gunner (2nd in V40 Men).
November 2023
• Alan Gunner won the V40s in Central Cyclo-Cross League Round 10 at Hillingdon, hosted by Twickenham CC - his second win of the weekend, after taking 1st in the LVYCC Eastern Cyclocross League Round 8 at Hog Hill. Paul Caton was also a double-winner taking 1st in the Eastern League on Saturday and 1st in the Central League on Sunday (and 4th V50 too). At Hillingdon, our youths were on top form too, with Samuel Stacey 1st, Alarik Knox 2nd and Benjamin Cousins 6th in U16 Boys, and George Rice 5th in U12s, plus Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp took 4th in the V50 Women.
• In the Central Cyclo-Cross League Rd 9 at Corby, Alarik Knox won the U16 Boys, Alan Gunner won the V40 Men, Jake Avis was 2nd in U8 Boys, Liz McKie took 3rd in V50 Women (with Verulam CC's Claire Sharp 6th), and George Rice was 6th in U12 Boys. In the Eastern Cyclocross League Rd 7 at Abbots Ripton, Samuel Stacey won the U16 Boys and Paul Caton won the V60 Men.
• At the National Trophy Series Round 4 in Torbay, Samuel Stacey took 8th and Alarik Knox 13th in U16 Boys, with Alan Gunner 7th in the V40 Men.
• At MK Bowl in the Central Cyclo-Cross League Round 8, Paul Caton won V60 Men, Jake Avis was 2nd in U8 Boys, Liz McKie was 2nd in V50 Women, Rachel Dunn was 3rd in V40 Women, and George Rice was 7th in U12 Boys.
• Alarik Knox took 2nd place in the U16s at the Wessex Cyclocross League Round 7 in Kingsclere.
• Paul Caton took the win in the V60s, with Alan Gunner 3rd in V40s, in the Eastern Cyclocross League Diss CC Suffolk Supercross.
• Jake Avis won the Royston Rockets 8/9 year-olds BMX and was 2nd in the Runnymede round of the South BMX Series on Sunday.
• Rachel Dunn was 4th V40 in the Rapha Muddy Hell at Herne Hill.
October 2023
• More strong results at National level for the team in the National Trophy Rd 3 at Derby, Alan Gunner took 7th in the V40 Men, Alarik Knox took 11th & Samuel Stacey 12th in U16 Boys, plus Emma Knox broke her thumb but still finished 20th in U14 Girls.
• Wins for Emma & Alarik Knox in the Leicestershire CX League Rd4 at Misterton Hall - Emma lapped all the U14 Girls and beat all the U14 Boys, and Alarik won the U16 Boys by 90 seconds! Paul Caton was 3rd in V60s, whilst Jake Avis was 2nd in the South Region BMX Winter Series.
• In the British Cycling cyclo-cross National Trophy Series 2023/24 Round 2 at Skipton, Samuel Stacey was 4th on the Under 16 Boys and Alan Gunner was 8th in the V40s, with both Alarik and Emma Knox unfortunately suffering mechanical issues this weekend.
• In the Central Cyclocross League Round 5 at Hemel Hempstead, in the youths Benjamin Cousins was 2nd in U16 Boys, George Rice 2nd in U12s, and Jake Avis was 2nd in U8s (with Verulam CC’s Winston Ford 3rd), and in the adults, Paul Caton won the V60s (taking 3rd in the V50/60s too), Rachel Dunn was 4th in V40 Women, and Matt Wight was 16th in Senior Men.
• At the British Cycling Cyclo-cross National Trophy Series 2023/24 Round 1 in South Shields, Emma Knox took 4th in the U14 Girls, Samuel Stacey was 7th in U16 Open Trophy with Alarik Knox 28th, and Alan Gunner was 7th in the V40 Open Trophy.
• In the Central Cyclo-cross League Round 4 at Bedfont Lakes, George Rice was 6th in U12s, Rachel Dunn was 7th in V40 Women, Paul Caton was 1st in V60 Men (and 4th overall in V50s).
• Mark McGrady won the Ulster Cyclo-cross B race.
• Jake Avis took 2nd in the South BMX Championships.
• Ryan Allen finished 1st in the 20-29 age group in the Thruxton Mass Attack Sprint Duathlon.
• Our newest team member Jake Avis started brilliantly at Central CX League Round 3 at Campbell Park hosted by Velobants.cc, taking his third win in the U8 Boys, George Rice followed that with 5th in the U12 Boys, Emma Knox then won the U14 Girls with another outstanding performance (over 3 minutes ahead of second place!), followed by Samuel Stacey taking 2nd in U16 Boys with Alarik Knox 4th and Benjamin Cousins taking 10th. In the Adults, Matt Wight took 11th in the Senior Men, Liz McKie was 2nd in V50 Women with Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp 4th, Alan Gunner won the V40 Men, and Paul Caton won the V60 Men (4th in V50s too).
• At the Eastern CX League Round 3 at Stanborough hosted by Welwyn Wheelers, George Rice took 6th in U12 Boys, Samuel Stacey won the U16s with Alarik Knox 3rd and Benjamin Cousins 5th, Emma Knox won U14 Girls (and was 2nd youth girl overall), Alan Gunner won V40 Men, Paul Caton was 2nd in V60 Men, and Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp was 2nd in V50 Women.
September 2023
• After a putting in consistently impressive results all through the summer season at Hillingdon, Steve Dunn took 3rd overall in his category in the 2023 Full Gas Summer Circuit Series.
• At the Wessex Cyclocross League #2 hosted by Fareham Wheelers CX there was 2nd in U14 Girls for Emma Knox and 3rd in U16 Boys for Alarik Knox.
• On tarmac, there was an impressive 5th for Ryan Allen in a wet Banbury Star Festival of Racing.
• Off-road, Verulam reallymoving’s youths were on good form, with Emma Knox taking 4th U14 girl in the first round of the Wessex CX league, Samuel Stacey taking 6th after a crash and Alarik Knox 7th in the U16 boys after both suffering a series of crash/mechanical issues.

August 2023
• August Bank Holiday Monday saw the inaugural Leigh Day Women's Grand Prix on the Bovingdon Bomber circuit. Our Mike Debney won the Masters support race, with our new signing Cormac Bryce 4th. Mike was then 4th in the Cat 3/4 Men’s race, plus Laura Hicks & Rachel Dunn both finished top-10 in the Women’s 3/4 race.
• Verulam reallymoving’s Chris Burns took5th against a large field in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Race #25 at Hillingdon.
• In the final round of the popular CCXL Summer CX series on Wednesday there were large fields of competitors again, including over 100 riders competing in Wave 2. Alan Gunner was on excellent form, taking 2nd overall in the Wave 2 race & 3rd overall in Wave 1, plus our youths were dominant with Samuel Stacey and Alarik Knox taking 1st & 2nd in the Wave 2 Youths, Emma Knox 1st U14 girl. Paul Caton was 1st V60 & 1st V50 in Wave 1 and 1st V60 & 4th V50 in Wave 2, Rachel Dunn 3rd woman in Wave 1 & 1st V40. Verulam CC’s Davi Braga who took 24th in Wave 2, Michael Parry was 30th and Claire Sharp was 7th woman in Wave 2.
• In the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series event #2 at Hillingdon, both Chris Burns and Steve Dunn each took 6th in their respective races, with Steve gaining points to retain his Cat 2 license for next year.
• Central Cyclocross Summer Series Round 3 at MK Bowl on Wednesday evening was super popular, featuring two Waves of races with no less than 103 competitors in Wave 2, emphasising the growing popularity of cyclocross. Verulam Reallymoving and Verulam CC were well represented and posted impressive results, with Alan Gunner 6th overall and 3rd V40 in both races, Rachel Dunn was 3rd place overall in the Wave 1 women’s race (and 1st place in the V40 Women). Liz McKie was also 3rd place overall in the Wave 2 women (and 1st place in the V50 Women), with Laura Hicks 6th overall and Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp 8th overall in the Wave 2 women. Matt Wight took his best cyclocross result to date with 9th overall, and Paul Caton was 1st place V60 and 3rd V50. Strong efforts from Verulam CC’s Davi Braga and Verulam Reallymoving’s Mark McGrady completed an impressive showing from the club and it’s race team.
• On tarmac Steve Dunn and Beth Watson were both racing again, with Beth taking 10th in the Women’s E/1/2/3/4 in the Thursday Crit Bowl Series and Steve narrowly missing out on the points at Lee Valley.
• Alan Gunner took 1st place in his race at the Ashwell CC Summer CX this week.
• In the final round of the Bovingdon Bomber series Mike Debney and Matt Davey took 6th & 7th respectively in the Men’s Cat 2/3 race, whilst Beth Watson and Rachel Dunn were 8th and 9th in the Women’s Cat 1/2/3/4 race.
• Over in the United States, Benjamin Cousins came 62nd out of 580 riders in California’s Tour de Big Bear Gran Fondo with over 8,000ft of climbing over 100 miles.
• Paul Caton was 3rd in the FNSS MTB race at Northampton, rounding out his excellent 2023 MTB season by also finishing a very impressive 9th out of the 90 starters. Steve Dunn took 5th in his race at Lee Valley this week in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series, which takes him to 4th overall in the series.
July 2023
• Alan Gunner took an excellent 2nd place at the National XC Marathon Champs
• Matt Wight took his first win for Verulam Reallymoving in the latest round of the Bovingdon Bomber Cat 2/3 series, lapping the field, with Mike Debney also breaking away from the bunch and taking a strong 3rd place.
• Redbourn Fete du Velo proved to be a hugely successful event for the club and for the racing team. The club and race team were at the forefront of events throughout the day, from the first race onwards, with VCC’s Grayson Hall taking 6th in the U8s, then George Rice rapidly dusting himself down after a crash to get back up and take 4th in the U10s. Samuel Stacy took 5th in the hotly-contested U16s, then in the afternoon sessions Karine Jones and Rachel Dunn always looked strong in the Women’s 2/3/4 with Karine taking 5th at the line. In the Men’s 2/3/4, with Matt Davey in support, Matt Wight put in a brilliant performance to get away from the 47 riders in the bunch to take 2nd, behind the winner, Adam Robertson, who himself started his cycle racing career with Verulam’s Youth Development Programme, as did 4th place Matt Watson. Steve Dunn rounded out the team’s strong showing with determined efforts throughout in the Masters 40+.
• Andrea Bartoluccio took 2nd overall and 1st place in the Senior B Category in the Campionato Regionale ASCI in Caronno Pertusell, Italy.
• Alan Gunner moved up to 2nd in the National Rankings in his category in the Men’s MTB XC table by taking 2nd place in the latest round at Rugeley with just two more races to go. At the same event, Alarik Knox was 5th in the Short Course Youth and 7th in the Juvenile Male race.
• Our women were back in action with 8th & 9th for Rachel Dunn and Laura Hicks in the Bovingdon Bomber.
• In the Full Gas Series at Lee Valley, Chris Burns took 6th and Steve Dunn was 6th in their respective events.
June 2023
• Matt Wright landed his strongest result to date in the Bovingdon Bomber Cat 2/3, taking 2nd place after his tactics to get away from the bunch paid off.
• On the track at Welwyn Track League, Samuel Story took 2nd in the Youth Scratch Race and 2nd in the Youth Handicap.
• Mike Debney had his first race for Verulam Reallymoving and promptly took the win in the Cat 3/4s at the latest round of the Bovingdon Bomber.
• Paul Caton led from start to finish to win the V60s and 4th V50 at the Beastway Round 6 at Redbridge - A great week for Paul, having also taken 2nd place in the National BMCR Mointain Bike Championships at Wibtoft. Steve Dunn took 7th in the V50s at Lee Valley,
• Verulam Reallymoving had another national series overall winner - taking the win in the Southern XC MTB race gave Alarik Knox the series win in U14s, with sister Emma Knox taking 3rd at the weekend and 3rd overall in the U12s series. George Rice still took 4th in the U10s despite a mechanical issue.
• On tarmac, Matt Wight, supported by great teamwork from Chris Burns, Steve Dunn, Ryan Allen & Batu Yildiz, got in the winning break to take an excellent 5th place in the Will Houghton Cat 2/3 Road Race at Hillingdon, whilst Chris Burns took 6th at Steve Dunn 10th in Full Gas Summer Circuit Series races this week at Hillingdon.
• On the track at the Welwyn open meeting lSamuel Stacey was in with the Senior B riders and took an impressive 3rd place in the Elimination Race, with Dale Jetmar taking 3rd in the Youth B Girls Omnium, and George Rice winning the Handicap and taking 2nd in the Youth D Omnium. The previous week Dale Jetmar took the win in the final Handicap event and Samuel Stacey was 2nd in the Points Race and the Keirin. MTB racing
• Paul Caton continued his winning form, taking 1st place at Beastway this week.
• Road racing, Samuel Stacey was 5th at Redbridge in the LVYCC Youth Races U16s and Steve Dunn was 6th at Lee Valley this week.
• At the Bovingdon Bomber Mark McGrady took 5th and Batu Yildiz 10th in the Mens Cat 3/4.
• In Italy, Andrea Bartoluccio took 3rd racing on gravel near Bergam.
• Time Trialling, at the Finsbury Park CC 25 mile, Matt Wight was 2nd and John Jones 5th and Benjamin Cousins cut 4 minutes from his PB. Subject to confirmation, that‘s 1st and 2nd for Matt and John in the Millennium TT Series, 1st in the Women’s Millennium Series for Karine Jones, 1st in the Vets for John Jones and potentially 2nd in the Team category (all to be confirmed once the official results are published). Karine also finished 5th in her category at the Tour of Cambridge individual TT.
May 2023
• At Welwyn Dale Jetmar took 2nd in the Youth 2 Scratch race, and Samuel Stacey took2nd in the Youth 1a Reverse Win-Out, and 2nd in the Youth 1a Elimination, then 2nd again in the Youth 1a/b Handicap.
• Off road, Alan Gunner was 4th and Alarik Knox was 8th in their respective National MTB XC races in Cornwall – both very strong results competing at a national level.
• Paul Caton was winning again on his mountain bike, taking the win in the V60s at the FNSS MTB race series at West Glebe Park in Corby and then finishing 1st V60 and 3rd V50 at Hog Hill
• Gavin Bench was 3rd in the BMCR Hare & Hounds Race at MK Bowl.
• At the Bovingdon Bomber Rachel Dunn took 3rd in the women’s E/1/2/3 race.
• Ryan Allen took another 5th place in the latest round of the King & Queen of the Bowl Criterium Series at Milton Keynes.
• Chris Burns won the bunch sprint in the Full Gas Summer Circuit Series Masters #6 to take 7th.
• Samuel Stacey (15) had a scorching series of races at the Welwyn Track League throughout May, winning both the Scratch Race and the Points Race and only just missed winning the Keirin by a few millimetres. Dale Jetmar (12) also had a win in the 1-lap sprint and took 2nd in the final handicap event ... just ahead of George Rice (10) who took 3rd place.
• Matt Wight, John Jones, Karine Jones & Nick Coe won Verulam Reallymoving the Team prize at the Hitchin Nomads 25-mile TT, with Karine taking 2nd place of the 15 women racing.
• Emma Knox was 2nd girl (and 4th overall) in the Southern XC MTB race, Steve Dunn, Alan Gunner & Rachel Dunn competed in the UCI Gralloch Gravel Race, with Steve finishing 19th out of the 240 racing in his category and Rachel 10th in hers, and U10 George Rice was smashing his first triathlon by posting a winning time on his bike.
• Mountain Bike racing at Beastway, Emma Knox was 2nd overall and 1st place girl in the Under 12s, whilst Alarik Knox was 3rd overall in the U14s, and Paul Caton took the win in his race.
• At Bovingdon, in the Bomber series, Mark McGrady took 3rd, assisted by some great teamwork from Batu Yildiz who finished 9th, and we had three women in the top-10 – Rachel Dunn 6th, Karine Jones 7th and Laura Hicks 8th.
• Steve Dunn took 7th at Lee Valley in the Full Gas Summar Circuit Series event #4, and then Matt Wight took 3rd at MK Bowl in the E123 on Thursday evening.
• Matt Wight took 5th in the opening round of the Bovingdon Bomber 2023 series, securing his Cat 2 license in the process, thanks to some well-planned teamwork from Mark McGrady and Matt Davey.
• Ryan Allen continued his consistent good form, finished 4th in the MK Bowl crit race, and Josh Hemmings took 6th in the LVCC crit at Redbridge.
• Alarik Knox and Alan Gunner were both 5th in their races at the British Cycling National MTB XC Series at Matterley Basin, Winchester plus Paul Caton was 2nd in the V60s and 5th in V50s in the FNSS MTB race at Northampton.
• Chris Burns, Steve Dunn, Ryan Allen, Batu Yildiz & Matt Wight raced at Hillingdon in the Full Gas Spring Cup Series Event #3, and put in a great team effort, with Matt taking 5th in the 2/3s, whilst in Italy, Andrea Bartoluccio took 5th overall and 1st place M2 category in Arcisate (Varese).
•The team were on good form over the first May Bank Holiday weekend, starting with a 2nd and a 3rd place for George Rice in the Youth 2 Cat at the Welwyn Track League, and a 3rd place for Samuel Stacey in the Youth 1 Cat. Samuel gets a special mention for riding up in the Senior 10-mile event and nearly making the podium up against the Senior A riders.
• Mark McGrady continued getting strong results by taking another top-10 in the NCRA Road Race. Both Chris Burns and Steve Dunn took top-10s in the Full Gas Sprint Cup Series, followed by Steve Dunn then taking 5th in the West Suffolk Wheelers Ixworth Crits 2/3/4/50+.
• In Italy, Andrea Bartoluccio finished an excellent 3rd in Casale Litta in Italy, and Ryan Allen made it into the top 10 again at MK Bowl, getting 5th in the sprint.
April 2023
• Batu Yildiz, Matt Wight and Matt Davey were all in action in the Cat 2/3 race at the Full Gas Spring Cup Series #1, with Matt Wight sprinting to an excellent 4th place.
• Mark McGrady took a top 10 in the VC Baracchi Cat 3/4 in Suffolk.
• Off road, Alarik Knox took 2nd in U14 Boys, Emma Knox was 2nd in U12 Girls, George Rice was 4th in U10s and Alan Gunner took 4th too in the Mens Veterans at the Southern XC mountain bike races at Holywell Estate near Winchester
• Jared Millar took 2nd in his age category at the BMCR Rapha CC race at Hog Hill, Alan Gunner took 4th in the National Mountain Bike Series #2 at Margam Park.
• U14 Benjamin Cousins had his first taste of time trialling with a strong performance in the Paceline RT Sporting 15.8.
• Our time trial squad put in strong performances (5th for Matt Wight, 7th for John Jones, 11th for Paul Caton and 16th for Nick Coe) and we took first-placed team at the Hemel Hempstead Cycling Club 'Sid Latchford' Hilly TT.
• Mountain Biking there was another win for the team with 1st U13 girl and 2nd overall at Gorrick MTB for Emma Knox.
• On tarmac, our Emma Knox took 2nd place girl and 4th overall in the U12s, whilst her brother Alarik took 4th in the U14s, at the LVYCC Winter Series #3 at Hog Hill. Meanwhile George Rice took 2nd in the last round of the U10s at the Hillingdon Spring series, finishing in joint first place for the overall series with his Luton CC cycling buddy Toby Scott.
March 2023
• Mountain Bike racing - in the Gorrick Spring XC Classic 2 on 5th March, Alarik Knox won the 'Juvenile Male' race, Emma Knox beat all the U13 boys except one to finish 2nd overall, and Alan Gunner was 5th place 'Expert Male'.
• On tarmac, George Rice followed up his 5th place in the first round of the Hillingdon Slipstreamers Youth Spring Series with 4th place in round two.
• Mountain Bike racing at the Southern XC at Winchester, Alarik Knox won the U14 Boys, Emma Knox was 3rd in U12 Girls (and 5th overall) and Alan Gunner was 2nd in the Mens Veterans.
• There was 2nd for George Rice in the U10s at the MK Bowl Spring Youth Series #1, and George was 3rd in U10s and Benjamin Cousins 6th in U14s in the Hillingdon Slipstreamers Spring Series #3.
• More cross-country MTB results as Alarik Knox took a strong 7th in the U16s at latest round of the British National Cross Series, with Alan Gunner taking a very impressive 5th in the Mens Vets.
• Ryan Allen took a strong 8th place in the Spring MK Bowl Circuit Series @The Bowl #3.
• A busy weekend for Samuel Stacey and Benjamin Cousins competing in the VC Londres Deux Jours de Cyclopark - Benjamin finishing 16th in U14s having taken 7th on Stage 2, and Samuel finishing 19th in U16s.
• We had our first win in our new 2023 kit - George Rice - 1st place at Hillingdon in U10s, following a win at MK Bowl the day before
• We won our first European prize of the season, as Andrea Bartoluccio took 5th in the M2 category in the Varese-Angera race in Italy.
February 2023
• Paul Caton has confirmed his position as first in British Cycling‘s National Rankings for the V60s this season. Paul has had an amazing cyclocross season, starting with winning the National Gravel Champs in September, and then taking no less than 14 race wins, and becoming the Eastern Region Divisional Champ. Paul won both the Eastern and Central League CX Series, and was 10th in the World Champs
• Time Trialling – Karine Jones won fastest woman at North Road Hardriders TT in very tough conditions. Nick, Karine and Matt were also 2nd team
January 2023
• We were celebrating our Central League successes at the annual CCXL End of Season Awards night. Our youths in particular have had an amazing season in CCXL this year - Samuel Stacey was overall winner of the U16 Boys, Alarik Knox was overall winner of U14 Boys, Emma Knox was overall winner of U12 Girls, and George Rice was 2nd overall in U10 Boys. Our seniors were also celebrating a great season too. Alan Gunner was overall winner in the V40 men, Paul Caton was overall winner in V60 men, Rachel Dunn was 2nd overall in the V40 Women, Liz McKie was 3rd overall in the V50 Women (with Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp 4th)
• In Round 12 of the Miche Wessex CX League at Crow, Emma Knox put in an amazing performance to be both the winner of the U12 Girls, but also to beat all the Boys in doing so! Her brother Alarik Knox won U14 Boys. Paul Caton won the V60s Eastern CX League at Milton, wrapping up his win in the Eastern League series for 2022/3, whilst in the U10s George Rice took an excellent 2nd place. Samuel Stacey was 4th in the Challenge Tires London and South East CX League - Round 10 at Herne Hill. On tarmac, Matt Wight took 10th in the Cat2/3/4 at Lee Valley VeloPark.
• Emma Knox won U12 Girls at the Wessex CX League #12 (beating most of the boys too!). Alarik Knox was 4th in U14s. In the Eastern League CX at Stow, Paul Caton won the V60s (and 3rd V50 in a field of 80 starters). Meanwhile George Rice put in a strong performance in Leicestershire CX League U12s despite a crash, and finished 13th in a large field. Jared Millar took 2nd place in the Full Gas Masters race at Hillingdon
• At the Eastern CX League at Snetterton with George Rice took 2nd in the U10s and Paul Caton 1st V60 & 3rd V50, whilst at the BC National Trophy #6 in Gravesend Alan Gunner was 5th in the V40s , Alarik Knox was 11th in U14s and Samuel Stacey was 26th in U16s
• Alarik Knox took 4th in the Under 14s at the National Championships at Westmoreland this weekend, against a field of the best riders in Britain

November 2022
• Alarik & Emma Knox became the 2022 Central Region Cyclocross Under 14 & Under 12 Champions. At the Central Cyclocross League Round 10 Hillingdon Regionals, the youths continued their excellent form as George Rice took 5th in the U10s, Emma Knox won the U12s and Alarik Knox won the U14s. Liz McKie took 3rd in the V50 women and Alan Gunner 4th in the V40 men. The team’s third regional championship came from Paul Caton who won the Eastern Region V60 championships at Trinity Park.
• In CCXL round 9 at RAF Halton, George Rice started the successes with 2nd in the U10s, followed by Emma Knox winning the U12s and Alarik Knox winning the U14s. In the adults, Alan Gunner won the V40 men, Paul Caton was 2nd in V60 men, Liz McKie was 2nd in V50 women, and Rachel Dunn was 3rd in V40 women.
• At the Cyclocross National Trophy at Torbay Alan Gunner was 7th in the V40s, Alarik Knox was 11th in U14s and Samuel Stacey was 31st in the U16s.
• Samuel was 16th on Sunday against in strong U16 field at Andover Supercross
• 7th place V40 for Alan Gunner at the National Trophy in Torbay, and 2 nd place at the Eastern Region Diss CC cyclocross. 2nd place V60 for Paul Caton too.
• Cyclocross became properly muddy at MK Bowl as Emma Knox won the U12s, Alarik Knox was 2nd in U14s, Samuel Stacey won the U16s, Paul Caton won the V60s (with Verulam CC’s Bruce Rice 9th), Rachel Dunn was 2nd in the V40 women, Alan Gunner was 2nd in V40 men, and Liz McKie was 5th in the V50s.
• In road racing, at the Full Gas Winter Circuit Series at Hillingdon, Batu Yildiz took his first win in Verulam Reallymoving colours. Jared Millar raced twice, taking 1st place in V50 in the Masters race and then 6th in the Cat 3/4 race.
October 2022
• Success on the track as Chris Burns and Matt Davey raced the Lee Valley Open Track Meeting on Tuesday. On the podium in every race! Chris 3rd in scratch and 2nd in the reverse win out. Matt 2nd in the devil and 1st in the points race
• Samuel Stacey took 2nd in the U16s and there was another win for Paul Caton at London CX League Gatwick with Paul taking 1st place V50 and 4th V50. Plus at the National Trophy at South Shields Alan Gunner took 8th and Alarik Knox took 13th in their respective races
• In torrential rain at Stanborough Park - our George Rice taking 4th in U10s, Emma Knox winning the U12s, Alarik Knox 2nd in U14s. By the time the adults raced the rain had eased leaving a very slippy course. Paul Caton won the V60s (and 4th in V50s), Alan Gunner was 2nd in V40 men, Rachel Dunn took 3rd in V40 women. Alan was also taking 8th, and Alarik taking 15th in their races at the National Trophy in Falkirk.
• At Hemel Hempstead, Emma Knox won the U12s (having lapped the field), Alarik Knox won the U14s, Samuel Stacey won the U16s and George rice took 5th in the U10s. In the adults, Alan Gunner won the V40 men, Paul Caton won the V60s, Rachel Dunn was 3rd in the V40s, Andrea Bartoluccio was 4th in the Senior Men, and Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp was 5th in the V50s. Meanwhile in the Lincs CX League, Josh Hemmings took another podium with 3rd place in the Juniors.
• George Rice won the U10s kicked off a hugely successful set of results at the CCXL Round 5 at Whipsnade, shortly followed by Emma Knox winning the U12s. Her brother Alarik Knox then won the U14s, with Samuel Stacey taking 2nd in the U16s. There were 13 Verulam CC & VRM adults racing at Whipsnade, with Rachel Dunn winning the V40 women, Paul Caton winning the V60 men, Liz McKie taking 2nd in the V50 women (with Verulam CC’s Claire Sharp 7th), Alan Gunner taking 2nd in the V40 men. Further north, Joshua Hemmings was 1st place in the Junior Men at the Lincolnshire CX League, and Alarik Knox and Samuel Stacey both put in a strong performances in the National Trophy CX race at Derby.

• Paul Caton became the British Gravel Champion after winning his Masters age category in the British Gravel Championship at the weekend, with our Issy Zimmerman taking an excellent 9th in his category
• 2nd for Emma Knox (U12) & 3rd for Alarik Knox (U14) in Wessex CX League at Foxhill, and 3rd place for Joshua Hemmings at Lincs CX League rd2
• At the previous round, Emma Knox won the U12 Girls in Wessex CX League race and Paul Caton took the V60 win (& 3rd V50) in the Amis Velo Eastern League, plus Josh Hemmings took 4th in the Lincs CX League Junior Men
• At CCXL/Velobants CX in The City - 2nd for George Rice in U10s, 1st for Emma Knox in U12s, 1st for Alarik Knox in U14s, 2nd for Rachel Dunn in V40, 3rd for Liz McKie in V50, 11th for John Jones in V50 and 12th for Andrea Bartoluccio in Senior Men
• At CCXL Rd 2 at Milton Keynes Bowl, there were wins for Emma Knox (U12) & Paul Caton (V60), second places for George Rice (U10) & Alarik Knox (U14), third places for Samuel Stacey (U16), Rachel Dunn (V40) & Verulam CC’s Alan Gunner, and fourth for John Jones (V50).
• At Welwyn Track League open meeting with 29 youths racing, we got to see our George Rice get the whole crowd behind him to outsprint a large group and win the final handicap race with Dale Jetmar in 3rd place. Dale also took another two 3rd places

• Andrea Bartoluccio took 2nd in the Finsbury Park Road Race 2022 this weekend, with Jared Millar 13th. Ryan Allen took 7th at Hillingdon in a very fast Will Houghton Mens 3/4 road race.
• On the track newcomer to the team Dale Jetmar took 3rd in the Elimination whilst Matt Davey was 2nd in the 10-mile race
• Jared Millar took 3rd in the BMCR National Road Race Championships, plus Andrea Bartoluccio took two wins in CX at Ashwell.
• Jared Millar continued his great form, taking 1st place in his age group in the BMCR Hoggenberg Classic, winning the bunch sprint and taking 5th overall. Paul Caton took 1st V60 and 2nd V50 in the last FNSS MTB race of the season at Naseby.
• At the last of the CCXL Summer Series at MK Bowl in race 1 of 30 riders, Verulam Reallymoving’s Andreas Bartoluccio won, Verulam CC’s Alan Gunner was 2nd (first V40) and Paul Caton was 5th and first V50 and V60. Race 2 had 70 riders all start together, Alan was 4th, Andreas 7th and Paul 12th (2nd V50 and 1st V60).
• Consistently strong results for Matt Davey with 3rd, 3rd, 4th and 6th at the Brixton Supermadison
July 2022
• At the Redbourn Fete du Velo, Samuel Stacey won the under-14 boys' event, with Alarik Knox in sixth place. George Rice came home in second place in the under-10 boys' race. Andrea Bartoluccio finished seventh and Matt Wight ninth in the 2/3/4 junior men's race, with Karine Jones crossing the line in fifth place in the junior women's event
• Paul Caton took the win in the Super Grand Vet category and 3rd in the 50+ Vet at the FNSS MTB League race at Market Harborough. George Rice took 2nd place U10 in the British Cycling Grasstrack event at Biggleswade.
• Also off-road, Emma Knox won the Wave 1 Youth race and Verulam CC’s Alan Gunner won the Adult CCXL Summer CX Series Race 1 at Milton Keynes, with Andrea Bartoluccio finishing 6th and Paul Caton 10th (1st place V60 and 3rd place V50). Alarik Knox was 4th in the Wave 2 Youth race. In race 2, Paul Caton was 7th overall and 1st V60 and 2nd V50.
• On the road, Matt Wight took 2nd place in the Cat 3/4s at Milton Keynes
• Time Trialling, John Jones took 1st and Paul Caton 2nd in the Hemel 10.
• On the track at Welwyn, Samuel Stacey took a win in the 1-lap dash, and 2nd in both the Points and Handicap races, and Matt Davey took 2nd in the Hare & Hounds and 4th in the 10-mile race
• Another win as Jared Millar took 1st place in his age category and 2nd overall in the BMCR Southend Wheelers race at Hog Hill.
• Matt Wight took 2nd place in the Bovingdon Bomber with Andrea Bartoluccio in 7th. Plus a 3rd place for Samuel Stacey in the Scratch Race at the Welwyn Open Meeting
• Alarik and Emma Knox both raced in Southern XC's New Forest MTB race this week. It was Emma's first race on a mountain bike and she dropped a chain and got caught behind a crash but still took 4th in the U12 girls. Alarik came fourth U14 but was in a tussle from whistle to tape for third spot which he missed by just half a wheel.
June 2022
• 2nd and a 3rd for Samuel in the Youth 1 Cat at Welwyn
• Great win for Luke Houghton at Bovingdon, with Matt Wight taking 3rd place
• Alice Butcher took 4th place in the Cat 2/3/4 at Bovingdon. Paul Caton was 3rd D Cat at MK Bowl this week and Ryan Allen was in the top-10 at Hillingdon. Meanwhile mountain biking in the ninth round of the Beastway XC Series, Andrea Bartoluccio took 4th overall at Hog Hill whilst Paul Caton was 1st place ‘Super Vet’
• Paul Caton was 2nd in the Southern XC Mountain Bike series at Basingstoke whilst Alarik Knox was 7th in the youth race at the same event. Meanwhile on tarmac, Steve Dunn took 5th at Hillingdon then 4th, 6th and a win at Welwyn Track League’s open meeting on Friday.
• Jared Millar took 5th a round of the Bovingdon Bomber Cat 3/4 and Jared was also 8th in the BMCR event at Hog Hill, plus Paul Caton took 7th overall and 3rd in the D age group at MK Bowl.
• Strong MTB results with Paul Caton taking 6th place Super Vet in the BC National Cross Country Series #4, with Verulam CC’s Alan Gunner taking 2nd Vet Male. Steve Dunn had another successful week at Welwyn Track League taking 3rd, 7th & 4th places

• Paul Caton was 2nd in the Central XC Mountain Bike ‘Super Vets’ race at Checkendon whilst Alarik Knok took 5th in the juvenile category.

• In the first Welwyn Track League of the season, Chris Burns took wins in the Senior B Scratch Race and in the Elimination race. Chris also took 7th in the Masters at the Full Gas Spring Cup Series Event #1 at Hillingdon
• 1st place team in the Hemel Hempstead CC TT, 2nd place man for Issy Zimmerman, 3rd place woman for Karine Jones
• In the Millennium Series of Time Trials VRM took another first in the team competition - John Jones, Nick Coe & Mike Edmunds. John also took overall 3rd and V50 1st place, Nick Coe was 1st V60
• Paul Caton, having won the HHCC evening 10 TT, rode the Finsbury Park 25 Guilden Morden and finished in 1.1.24 for 9th overall and first place V60 whilst Nick Coe was 17th.

• A brilliant 7th place for Paul Caton in the UCI 2021 World Masters Cyclocross Championships at Trinity Park Ipswich
• On tarmac, in the Full Gas Winter Circuit Series #5 at Lee Valley, thanks to a great lead-out from Steve Dunn, our Chris Burns & Jared Millar took 2nd & 3rd respectively in the Masters event, whilst more clever team-work from Chris Burns and Matt Davey saw Alfie Aldridge take 5th in the Cat 2/3/4.
• Off-road in the Eastern Cyclo Cross League #9 at Southill Park, Samuel Stacey was 2nd in U14 Boys, Paul Caton took 2nd overall in the v50 race and 1st V60. • Samuel Stacey, who had recently joined our race team from Verulam CC’s highly successful youth development programme, took 5th in the U14s road race at Hog Hill, building on a series of strong cyclocross results this season

• Cyclocross resumed with a mega start to the 2021 CCXL Cyclocross season, including 1st place for Ella Ruggles, 2nd places for Paul Caton & Liz McKie, 3rd for Rachel Dunn & Emma Knox, 4th for John Jones
• There was 3rd place for our Issy Zimmerman in the 50+ category of the British National Time Trial Champs at Warwickshire
• Liz McKie and Emma Knox then continued the cyclocross success, with both taking 2nd places in Central CX League Round 2

• At MK Bowl, Amy Harvey took her first win for Verulam Reallymoving in race one, with Ella Ruggles winning the second race.
• In the Hemel Hempstead CC Hill Climb, Karine Jones won first place woman, with Matt Davey taking fourth place in the mens, just 8 seconds behind the winner, and Ryan Allen just 10 seconds behind Matt
• Will Smith won at Abingdon and MK Bowl, was 4th junior in the 2020 National Hill Climb Championship, and was offered a place on the Z Junior Racing Team – a great opportunity that Verulam Reallymoving is proud to have supported

• Covid restrictions eased
• Stan Nwaka and the TT riders were back action in the HHCC Time Trial
• The Bovingdon Bomber series returned
• Luke Houghton took enough points to retain the title of King of the Bomber – a great result having missed the majority of the 2019 campaign with a serious elbow injury. In the first round of the series defending series champion, and new Verulam reallymoving signing, Sam Hodges, George Olive, Jared Millar, Sean Meager and Matt Davey put in strong performances but the second round of the series saw Luke cement his lead by winning both cat three and four races, thanks to teamwork from Issy Zimmerman. In the later race events Will Smith was smashing the Cat 3/4 races with a series of wins

• We went to Zwift from our kitchens, garages, conservatories and spare bedrooms. Karine Jones and her Zwift-restyled kitchen featured in the local press
